Food Film Friday: Make the Big Kahuna Burger from Pulp Fiction

“Mmmm … This IS a tasty burger.”

Have you watched Pulp Fiction lately. Got a hankerin’ for a Big Kahuna Burger? You know, the cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast?

I wasn’t able to find an actual restaurant version of the burger that was pop-culturized by Samuel L. Jackson in Quentin Tarantino’s 1984 Oscar-winning film. However, I came across a great recipe by Sarah Murphy Robertson over at FoodRepublic.com.

Try it and report back. Maybe you, too, will be saying, “Mmm…this IS a tasty burger.” I’m hoping your version doesn’t result in as much bloodshed as in the movie, though.

The Big Kahuna Burger from Pulp Fiction

Make 4 servings; prep 15 min.; cooking 10 min.

Burger:
1 lb. ground beef or bison
2 Tbsp. teriyaki sauce
1 Tbsp. grill seasoning
4 pineapple rings (canned or fresh)
4 pieces bacon, cooked until crisp
4 slices monterey jack cheese

Pulp Fiction, Big Kahuna Burger

Spicy Cilantro Mayo:
1/3 c. mayonnaise
1 tsp. Sriracha or chili sauce
1 Tbsp. cilantro, finely chopped

Directions:
Using your hands, gently mix the ground meat with the teriyaki and grill seasoning in a medium bowl. Be careful not to overwork the mixture as that can toughen the meat. Divide into four quarter-pound patties.

Grill pineapple slices for approximately one minute on each side on your grill of choice. Then grill the burgers until desired doneness. Place a piece of bacon on each and top with a piece of jack cheese to hinge the bacon in place. Top with a grilled pineapple slice and serve on Kaiser rolls spread with Spicy Cilantro Mayo.

Spicy Cilantro Mayo:
Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl and use as condiment on Big Kahuna Burgers.
