Fringe Gets a Fifth Season – But Will It Be the Last?

Fringe: John Noble as Walter Bishop

The Twitterverse was buzzing last week with the news that Fringe was picked up for season five. I used to review the show over at the old TV Squad (since absorbed by the almighty Huffington Post), but admit to lapsing this season.

Still, I’m thrilled with the news, and it gives me a reason to get caught up on the current season. (Yes, I’m one of THOSE people. Hey, I have a lot of TV to watch for work, so I have to make sure I’m investing my time wisely.)

But you have to wonder if season five will indeed be “the final season” for Fringe, as the trailer below indicates. The show’s been on the bubble more than once, and moving it to the Friday night death slot only seemed to ensure its demise.

Only, it didn’t die. Fringe fans rose up en masse and rallied for — and were rewarded with — another season. Will they do it again next year? Will we have another Supernatural on our hands? That show was originally planned with a five-season arc, but the fans ralllied and here we are in season seven.

Happy about the Fringe news? Think we’ll get more Fringe after season five?

I do so hope it is not the last season- but if they try to add this silly ‘in the future’ thing it might just die a slow death- it is already so complicated with the two worlds- and all that- adding this futuristic stuff is going a bit over the top. I normally see that shows that try ‘too hard’ die.

You know, Fringe really has an interesting backstory. I’m not talking about the show’s storyline, which is fascinating, but the story of the SHOW. We obsessively watched the first couple of seasons. Well, that’s partly because I was reviewing it for the old TV Squad, so was required to watch it. But we were absolutely hooked in this household. Then we strayed during season three, and I haven’t watched season four at all (and it pains me to say that, with all the buzz over it). So we’ll see what happens in season five and whether the fans demand another season. I mean, it could get even BETTER after season five. It’s been known to happen.
