Shout Factory Releases ‘Into the Night’ Blu-ray Collector’s Edition

On Nov. 9, 2017, Shout Factory! is releasing “Into the Night” in a brand new Collector’s Edition blu-ray pack. You might not have seen this action-packed comedy-thriller when it was released in 1985 – honestly, I don’t think a lot of people did – but it’s a definite must-see, especially for film buffs.

“Into the Night,” first released on DVD in 2003, is pure 1980s, with enough action and dark humor to keep the story moving along. The locations and sets are also a fascinating look for folks interested in cinematography.

Definitely check this one out, especially with Shout’s new release, which features brand new interviews with John Landis and Jeff Goldblum, along with a newly restored HD master, award-winning documentary “B.B. King Into the Night” and more.

Directed by John Landis, “Into the Night” stars Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Pfeiffer, and features a large number of cameo appearances by various filmmakers and directors, including Landis himself. The amazing soundtrack includes the songs “Into the Night,” “In the Midnight Hour” and “Lucille,” performed by B.B. King.

The story follows a depressed insomniac named Ed Okin (Goldblum), who upon discovering that his wife is having an affair drives to LAX on his friend Herb’s (Dan Aykroyd) suggestion. There, he’s surprised by a beautiful jewel smuggler, Diana (Michelle Pfeiffer), who lands on his car and begs him to drive her away from four Iranians who are chasing her. Of course, he becomes embroiled in her predicament.

After becoming increasingly exasperated with her demands, Ed discovers that Diana has smuggled priceless emeralds from the Shah of Iran’s treasury into the country, and she’s being pursued by various assorted assailants, including the aforementioned agents of a criminal Iranian expatriate and a British hitman (David Bowie).

The caper get increasingly out of hand, and the two are eventually taken to a motel room by federal agents, where they’re given a fortune in cash from one of Diana’s wealthy friends via a federal agent. Ed finally sleeps, but wakes up the next day to an empty hotel room, with most of the money gone. Things take yet another interesting turn at that point.
