New movies in theaters this week include “The Darkness” (where scary things happen) and “Money Monster” (beautiful people battle an unhinged investor). Let’s take a closer look at the new movies in theaters this week.

From the director of the cult classic “Wolf Creek,” Greg McLean, comes this supernatural thriller. As a family returns home from vacation at the Grand Canyon, they innocently bring home a supernatural force that preys on their own fears and vulnerabilities.

It threatens to destroy them from within, while consuming their lives with terrifying consequences. Kevin Bacon, Radha Mitchell, Lucy Fry and David Mazouz star in this horror flick.

In this high stakes thriller, George Clooney and Julia Roberts star as financial TV host Lee Gates and his producer Patty. The pair find themselves in an explosive situation when an irate investor who has lost everything (Jack O’Connell) forcefully takes over their studio.

During a tense standoff broadcast to millions on live TV, Lee and Patty must work furiously against the clock to unravel the mystery behind a conspiracy at the heart of today’s fast-paced, high-tech global markets. Directed by Jodie Foster, this movie also stars Giancarlo Esposito and Dominic West.
