Elijah Wood premiered his new film, “The Trust,” at SXSW this week. Directed by Alex and Benjamin Brewer, the film stars Elijah Wood and Nicolas Cage. It hits theaters and VOD on May 13, 2016. It’ll also be on DirecTV beginning April 14. And it looks pretty funny.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Nicolas Cage in a funny role (oh, how I’ve missed it), but the “Raising Arizona” star exercises his comic genius in this new film.
In “The Trust,” Wood and Cage star as corrupt cops working dull administrative jobs. So dull, in fact, that they decide to concoct a plan to rob a vault built into the freezer of a small grocery store.

Nicolas Cage Always Wanted to Work with Jerry Lewis
“The Trust” also stars Sky Ferreira and Hollywood comic legend Jerry Lewis (yes, really!). Apparently, Nicolas Cage has long admired Jerry Lewis and wanted to work with him in a movie. Lewis plays his father in “The Trust.”
The film is set in Las Vegas, and iconic Las Vegas Strip locations include the Peppermill Restaurant and the Riviera Hotel. Police uniforms, badges, insignia and squad cars were created for a non-existent “LVPD.” Actual Las Vegas Metropolitan Police department is known as the LVMPD or Metro.
Also, sightseeing helicopters buzzed almost continuously above one Las Vegas location, ruining several audio takes.
The crime thriller is rated R for violence, language, some sexuality/nudity and drug use.
Take a look at a few pics of Elijah Wood at SXSW this week, including some awesome pics from the Samsung Photo Booth. It’s been fun to see his journey since his “Lord of the Rings” days. He’s one of those stars who seems to have successfully navigated the Hollywood world after being part of such a big blockbuster series.
