Lady Gaga, wearing a glittery red suit, stunned the world with her version of The National Anthem in the opening minutes of Super Bowl 50 yesterday. Her version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” is now right up there with Whitney Houston’s, in my mind. If Gaga had dropped the mic after her gorgeous performance, she would have been completely justified!
The performance took place at Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara, California’s Levi’s Stadium. The Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers faced off. The Broncos won.
LADY GAGA SINGS NATIONAL ANTHEM AT SUPER BOWL 50
In true Lady Gaga form, the singer-songwriter — who’s having a very good year after landing Oscar and Grammy nominations in 2016, as well as a Golden Globe win for ‘American Horror Story’ — wore blue-painted fingernails and glittery red eyeshadow.
Lady Gaga brought her own personal style to the National Anthem, while also keeping things very traditional. She started slowly and built until she hit the high notes. Levi’s Stadium – as well as the world – roared with cheers.
Lady Gaga turns 30 in March, but before celebrating that milestone, she will perform a medley of David Bowie songs in tribute to the late singer-songwriter during the Grammy Awards broadcast on February 15. The ceremony will air live on CBS.
LADY GAGA ON SINGING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM – ALWAYS BEEN A DREAM
Before singing the National Anthem at Super Bowl 50, the pop star sat down to discuss her craft with NFL Media analyst Nate Burleson.
She said it’s always been a dream of hers to sing at a major sports event. To have it be the Super Bowl is a big honor. She also said that of all the singers who’ve done it previously, Whitney Houston’s version is the pinnacle for her.
I quite agree, and now count Lady Gaga’s version is right up there at the top of the list.
