Not everybody likes Angelina Jolie Pitt. I do. I love her as an actress, I love her cheekbones, and I love her feminism. So I’m ridiculously excited to hear that she’s producing an adaptation of Deborah Ellis’ “The Breadwinner” (buy it over on Amazon).
“The Breadwinner” follows Parvana, who disguises herself as a boy to earn money for her family in a Taliban-run Afghanistan. The adaptation will be animated and will be produced in two languages: English and Dari.
Jehan Noujaim, Karim Amer and Gerry Shirren will be joining the product as executive producers. Anthony Leo and Andrew Rosen of Aircraft Pictures, Stephanie Roelants of Melusine Productions, and Tomm Moore and Paul Young of Cartoon Saloon are producing.
Rumor is that the film will be ready in 2017 – and I’ll be running out to see it. Angelina Jolie Pitt + beautiful animation + a diverse movie that also happens to be a YA adaptation? I’m in.
