Well, this is good to know. When the guy who started it all says he likes your installment of a popular franchise, that’s a good thing.

“If you look at why the films became classics, they had characters that you liked,” says Cameron of the “Terminator” franchise. “The new film, which in my mind I think of as the third film, we see Arnold take the character even farther.”

Reflecting back on the previous “Terminator movies, he says, “It’s all about the twists … If you liked the first movie, you’re gonna love this one.” Check out more from James Cameron in the video below.

Directed by Alan Taylor, “Terminator Genisys” follows John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, who sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future. But an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline.

Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future…

“Terminator Genisys” hits theaters July 1, 2015.
