There are two movies opening wide in theaters this week, and they couldn’t be more different.
“Home” is a sweet family movie featuring the voices of Rihanna, Jim Parsons and Jennifer Lopez. “Get Hard,” as you might imagine, is NOT a family movie, but rather an R-rated comedy starring Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s opening in theaters this week.
HOME
PG for mild action and some rude humor | In Theaters 3/27 | Ok for Kids 7+ | 20th Century Fox, DreamWorks Animation | Reel Preview: 4 of 5 Reels | Meet the Boov | Facebook
When Earth is taken over by the overly-confident Boov, an alien race in search of a new place to call home, all humans are promptly relocated as the Boov get busy reorganizing the planet. But when one resourceful girl named Tip (Rihanna, who also contributes a song) manages to avoid capture, she finds herself the accidental accomplice of a banished Boov named Oh (Jim Parsons).
The two fugitives realize there’s a lot more at stake than intergalactic relations as they embark on the road trip of a lifetime. Based on the novel “The True Meaning of Smekday” by Adam Rex, this sweet movie is directed by Tim Johnson and also features the voices of Jennifer Lopez, Matt Jones and Steve Martin.
GET HARD
R for pervasive crude and sexual content and language, some graphic nudity, and drug material | In Theaters 3/27 | Ok for Kids 17+ | Warner Bros. | Reel Preview: 3.5 of 5 Reels | GetHardMovie.com
Despite the title of this movie and sexual innuendoes throughout, it’s not what you think. Perhaps they should have named it “Get Tough.” That’s what millionaire hedge fund manager James (Will Ferrell) must do when he’s convicted of fraud and looking at a stint in San Quentin.
Fortunately, the judge gives him 30 days to get his affairs in order, so James turns to Darnell (Kevin Hart) to prep him for a life behind bars.
But unbeknownst to James, Darnell is actually a hard-working small business owner who’s never received so much as a parking ticket. Together, the two guys do whatever it takes for James to “get tough” and, in the process, discover how wrong they were about a lot of things – including each other. With the comedic chops of Farrell and Hart, this movie is good for some laughs after a long, hard winter.
