First Look: Leonardo DiCaprio In Alejandro González Iñárritu’s ‘The Revenant’

The Revenant 1

Here are the first stills of Leonardo DiCaprio in Alejandro González Iñárritu‘s upcoming film “The Revenant.” It looks offbeat, especially with the suave DiCaprio in the grizzled lead role.

Of course, the director is no stranger to offbeat. You remember that single-shot, jazz-scored little indie film called “Birdman.” The one that’s winning all the awards.

Tom HardyWill Poulter, and Domnhall Gleeson co-star in this film, which follows a 19th century fur trapper who is mauled by a grizzly bear, left for dead and robbed, and then goes on a mission of vengeance against the men who left him out in the cold.

The Revenant 2

Reteaming with cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, Iñárritu is shooting in the wilds of Alberta, Canada and adding the extra cutting-edge touch of using only natural light. Which up there means they have approximately 34 minutes of shooting time every day.

You know, why NOT add extra pressure to the shoot? Because I’m sure the filming process always goes way too smoothly without that added tension.

Anyway, “The Revenant” opens on Dec. 25, 2015. Yep, Christmas Day.

Another award-winner? We’ll know next year at this time. Personally, I can’t wait for DiCaprio to go all postal in the wilderness.

I think Leo is spending a great deal of energy attempting to be seen as “a man.”
