Tom Hanks, Kerry Washington & More React to Golden Globes Nominations

Nominations for the 2014 Golden Globes were announced this morning, and the stars had plenty to say:

Idris Elba, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama and Best Actor in a Mini-Series or TV Movie: “I’m truly humbled and honored to be acknowledged for two projects that, though very different from one another, are both extremely personal and special to me. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for your support, and I would also like to give a special thank you to Mr. Mandela, who will be forever missed.”

Tom Hanks, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama: “I’m honored. The HFPA puts on a good party, and I am happy to be invited.”

Kerry Washington, Best Actress in a TV Series – Drama: “I’m enormously grateful to the Hollywood Foreign Press for this honor. It’s humbling to be nominated alongside such talented and hard-working women whose work inspires me.”

Matthew McConaughey, Best Leading Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama (“Dallas Buyers Club”): “I’m excited and honored that the HFPA has recognized my performance in ‘ Dallas Buyers Club.’ Ron Woodroof was a revolutionary for the human spirit, and I was blessed to tell his story. I’m looking forward to spending the evening at the Golden Globes on January 12th.”

Jared Leto,  Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture (“Dallas Buyers Club”): “This is absolutely incredible. I want to thank the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for shining a light on ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ and for celebrating independent cinema. I’m blown away by this Golden Globe Award nomination and so thankful to the incredible filmmakers for inviting me to help bring a fascinating story to the screen. This has been an unforgettable experience, and I’m so very grateful to you all.”

Beau Willimon, EP, Showrunner and Creator, “House of Cards”: “All of us at ‘House of Cards’ are thrilled by the nominations. It’s such an honor to have the collective efforts of our wonderful cast, crew, designers, directors and writers embraced by the international community and recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press. I’m particularly happy for Kevin, Robin and Corey – such a fierce trio of talent. They bring the best out of everyone they work with.”

Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Best Original Song – Motion Picture, “Frozen,” “Let It Go”: “We are so grateful to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for this nomination.  We put a lot of ourselves into ‘Let It Go,’ and getting to work with Disney and Idina Menzel has been a dream come true for us.”

Sofia Vergara: “My Golden Globes are still going strong! That’s why I don’t sag. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for this nomination and for nominating the cast of ‘Modern Family.’ It is truly an honor.”

Oscar Isaac, Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy: “Working with the Coen brothers on Inside Llewyn Davis was a life changing experience. I’m grateful and humbled that the HFPA recognized my work in the movie.”

Helena Bonham Carter: “I’m thrilled to receive a nomination for ‘Burton and Taylor.’ But I couldn’t have done it without Dominic West or Elizabeth Taylor so I’m accepting the honor on their behalf.”

Sally Hawkins, “Blue Jasmine”: “I would like to thank the HPFA with all my heart. I’m so surprised and truly honored. Making this film with Woody Allen and Cate Blanchett and the rest of our cast and crew was the most wonderful experience and very special to me. I’m so delighted for Cate too. I am overwhelmed. Thank you.”

Hayden Panettiere: “I have loved working with Callie Khouri and the extraordinary cast and crew of ‘Nashville.’ Juliette Barnes is such an amazing character to take on, and I am truly honored to be recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. It’s been an incredible morning!”

Julie Delpy, Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, “Before Midnight” (Sony Pictures Classics): “I am delighted, happy and thrilled to be nominated. I want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for acknowledging my performance of Celine in ‘Before Midnight’! It’s been an amazing journey which I’ve shared over 20 years with Richard Linklater and Ethan Hawke, to whom I owe so much.”

John Williams: “I’m delighted to learn that the score from ‘The Book Thief’ has been recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. It has been a joyous experience to work with director Brian Percival and all associated with this very special and truly unique film.”
