It’s always so sad to hear of a beloved celebrity’s death, and the first thing I always think is – it it a hoax? For some reason, death hoaxes are all the rage now.

Sadly, this one appears to be real. Paul Walker – best known for his role as Brian O’Conner in the “Fast & Furious” movie franchise – died earlier today after a single-car accident and explosion in Southern California.

The accident happened north of Los Angeles in Santa Clarita, and according to sources in a story over at TMZ, the actor was in a Porsche when the driver lost control and slammed into a post or a tree, causing the car to burst into flames. Sources say both Walker and the other person were killed.

Filming is currently in progress on “Fast & Furious 7,” due out in 2014. Walker will also be seen in “Brick Mansions,” a Luc Besson film due out in 2014, and he was the executive producer for “Skyscraper,” currently in script status.

Walker’s official Facebook page posted this message:

It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. – ‪#‎TeamPW‬

Our prayers go out to his friends and family.

  1. When it first broke, I thought maybe it was a hoax, too, and hoped it was. But now, his reps have posted on his official Twitter and Facebook pages to confirm it. So very sad.

  2. So sad… And so young with so many good things ahead in his life.

I know “Fast & Furious 7” is currently filming, but I’m not sure where they are in the process. Vin Diesel posted set pics a while back. I wonder if they’ll have his character die and pay tribute to him…

  3. Such a sad story. I feel so bad for his daughter and family. Everyone talks about what a good person he was – with a great spirit. RIP

  4. When I heard about this, I almost cried. Fast and Furious are by far some of my favorite movies and his death was heartbreaking. The fact that he had to die in a car crash makes it that much worse, but I suppose it’s fitting as well. The important thing to note is that he was not a driver, simply a passenger. He was an incredible man.

  5. This really is a sad story. We all love him and we can’t help but to feel really sad. So if you are paying attention to your vehicle wraps, you need to pay more attention to your safety. Safety must always be everybody’s priority. And I am not saying that Paul was not careful but at least, we can be more cautious on our drives.

  6. When I first saw this, I was in utter shock, I almost didn’t believe it. When doing a little more digging I to discovered it wasn’t so much an accident, it’s sickening to think that this group thinks they can play with peoples lives like this in order to benefit their own pocket. Truly disgusting. With that said, I feel so bad for all his close friends and family, I can’t imagine what they are going through. I know I cried everytime I saw a post about it, and I even get teary eyed now. I wrote a post about it on my All Things Acting blog.

    • Thanks for the note, Destini. It does, in fact, seem like acting is to blame for many deaths these days. To be successful in the biz, it seems like you’ve really got to be grounded with both feet planted firmly in the real world. Jennifer Lawrence and Shailene Woodley are two actors who I’m hoping will be ok. It seems like they’re not letting the Hollywood glitz and glamour go to their heads.

  7. I understand such a bad news. and also very very bad for his family and child. i understand and i can realize that because i have no father. he is dead. I know what happened to child and family without father or a husband.

  8. I agree it’s frustrating that there are so many fake “death posts” out there now. So sad. Paul Walker truly made the Fast and Furious series and he is missed.

  9. This really is a sad story. We all love him and we can’t help but to feel really sad. So if you are paying attention to your vehicle wraps, you need to pay more attention to your safety. Safety must always be everybody’s priority.
