The Voice Recap: The Battles, Part 3 – 5×10

The Voice: The Battles Part 4

Tonight, the battle rounds continue on “The Voice.” Let’s take a look at the performances.

Team Christina: Josh Logan vs. Michael Lynch. Christina chose Maroon 5’s “Harder to Breathe” for their sing-off. She said the song is a perfect set-up for two singers, but encouraged them to move around. This song is jam-packed with words, though, so I’m worried for their performance. But – yay! – they made it without forgetting any lyrics! Both great voices, but my favorite is Josh Logan.

CeeLo said it was effortless, and that Josh sounded almost identical to Adam Levine. Blake said it’s full of energy and they both gave 110 percent. Adam said this is Maroon 5’s first song that ever became a hit. “You guys did an amazing job.” Christina chose Josh. Michael was not picked up in a steal.

Team CeeLo: George Horga, Jr. vs. Juhi. CeeLo chose “The Best I’ve Ever Had,” by Gavin DeGraw for their sing-off. These two look like they’re having a blast. He has a great voice, but I think her particular style will win over the coaches.

Adam said George had a bad note (I didn’t notice!), but didn’t crumble. Blake said Juhi (who’s only 16, he reminds us) sounds like a rock and roll girl, and he’d choose her. Christina said they both did a good job. CeeLo called “Ju” a young Einstein because she’s so brilliant, but George has a lot of passion. He chose George, because George doesn’t have a “Plan B” – this is it for him.

And Adam stole Juhi! He said he couldn’t believe CeeLo didn’t pick her. “I just kind of won the lottery by grabbing you for my team,” said Adam.

Team Blake: Austin Jenckes vs. Brian Pounds. Blake chose “To Love Somebody” by the Bee Gees for their duet. Blake joked that he paired them because of the denim (but really it’s because they’re both edgy and powerful). Cher said Brian needs to not be so cerebral with it.

Both great singers, but Austin stands out for me. He has both a unique look and sound. Christina said she connected more with Austin too. CeeLo said Brian had a couple of moments where he could have connected better. Adam said Austin took this one. Blake said Austin left his heart laying out there on the stage. He chose Austin. Brian was not picked up in a steal.

Team Adam: James Irwin vs. Matt Cermanski. Adam chose “Counting Stars” for their duet. This is a tough one! I think I like James a little better. Something about his voice and style grabs me.

Blake said they had the same strengths and weaknesses in their vocals, but he went with James. Christina said Matt’s falsetto was a little more accurate. CeeLo said it was “hype, dope and fresh” (I think that’s what he said). He gave it to James. Adam loved the energy, but said they both definitely have work to do. He chose James, because he was a little more connected. Matt was not picked up in a steal.

Team Christina: Destinee Quinn vs. Lina Gaudenzi. Christina chose “Not Ready to Make Nice” by the Dixie Chicks. It’s cool when Christina sang the song during rehearsal and showed the emotion they needed. I’m so glad I don’t have to make this choice, because they’re both great.

CeeLo loved that it was split between passion and performance art. He loved watching them “live the song out loud.” Adam said they were both very connected to the song, but certain moments fell flat. He’d probably go with Lina. Blake said Destinee gets a free pass on some of the technical things because she was so into the song, but Lina probably performed the song better. Christina said this is an “equal win,” but she chose Destinee because she was so moved by her performance. Adam stole Lina!

Team Adam: James Wolpert vs. Will Champlin. Adam chose Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive” (one of my favorite songs). Both unique singers, but this seems clear-cut to me – I love Will.

Blake said James is the surprise because he doesn’t look the part – hair parted, glasses, tie and sweater. “Shock is what I aim for,” said James. Christina said Will had the more solid, consistent performance, and James pushed a little too hard (my thoughts too). CeeLo likes James’ style, but for his own “intrigue and amusement,” he likes Will better. Adam said Will was a huge surprise because he looks like he “could be working the stock market – in a cool way.” But Adam chose James. What?!! Ok, someone please steal Will!! And at the last moment, Christina stole him – thank goodness!
