The Voice Recap: The Battles, Part 2 – 5×8

On tonight’s episode of “The Voice,” we’re into the second part of the “Battle Rounds,” where the contestants perform duet sing-offs with the hopes of staying in the game. Here’s a look at the performances.

TEAM CHRISTINA: Jacob Poole vs. Matthew Schuler, “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light ‘Em Up).” Their voices seem evenly matched in terms of power, and this is a great song for them.

CeeLo loved the choreography. Adam said, “That was like a musical ass-whoopin'” and chose Matthew. Blake said he was waiting for somebody’s nose to start bleeding, and he chose Jacob. Christina called them both “crazy-talented,” and chose Matthew. Jacob is available to steal, but no one saves him.

TEAM CEELO: Kat Robichaud vs. R. Anthony, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” Aerosmith. Their voices are very different, but the song has meaning for both of them. It seems a little pitchy in parts, but that could just be me.

Adam loves her intensity and commitment. Blake said R. Anthony came out of nowhere, but gives it to Kat. Christina didn’t choose. CeeLo said there’s no way to compare them, but he chooses Kat. No one stole R. Anthony, but he leaves with a new sense of purpose.

TEAM BLAKE: Monika Leigh vs. Ray Boudreaux, “Some Kind of Wonderful.” I love this song for them, because their voices are both bluesy. And I love when you can tell the singers really respect each other, like these two. Tough call, but I’m giving it to Monika.

Christina loves their energy. CeeLo felt that Monika got a little lost in the moment. Adam said the sky’s the limit for Ray (but he’s mad at Monika for not choosing him in the blind auditions). Blake loves Monika’s freedom and her ability to create the moment as it happens. During the final moment, Ray’s adorable daughter yelled out his name – so cute. Blake chose Ray. Monika was scooped up by CeeLo!
