This news makes me sad. Kris Jenner and ever-patient husband Bruce Jenner are separating after 22 years of marriage. But are they REALLY separating? Or are they just living apart and finding a life outside of the marriage? Alas, I think it’s the first one (though some friends have wondered if it’s a publicity stunt).
“We are living separately and we are much happier this way,” the pair recently told E! News. “But we will always have much love and respect for each other. Even though we are separated, we will always remain best friends and, as always, our family will remain our number one priority.”
That sounds like a real separation, doesn’t it? But there are spouses who live apart and remain married – they just like living apart. But they’re still committed to each other. Yeah, I’m trying to work this out in my head, because Kris and Bruce always seemed like such a great couple whose marriage was able to survive the rigors of Hollywood.
Rumors of marital strife have been shadowing the Jenners for months, but the family has kept a unified front in shutting those stories down.
“We just laugh it off,” Kris told E! News last November regarding tabloid reports that she and Bruce were divorcing. “We love each other and just laugh about it … These kind of stories have been circulating for the last couple of years.”
And then, on April 21, Kris marked their 22nd anniversary on Instagram with this: “Happy Anniversary Bruce!!!! Best 22 years I could ever have imagined…hope the next 22 is even more fabulous…I love you!”
Sigh … Over the past few weeks, Kris has been photographed without her wedding ring.
During the current season of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” Bruce spent time staying in a home he had rented in Malibu, but in June, Khloé Kardashian Odom said on “The Tonight Show” that we shouldn’t read too much into their living arrangement.
“They’re not having problems, but they still like to live apart, which is definitely different,” she told Jay Leno.
“You know, Bruce and my mom, they wanted some … In my house there is a man room for [Lamar Odom]. A room, not a different house. So I think they took my idea and ran with it. They got another house and Bruce stays there sometimes.”
But look, 22 years is a long time in Hollywood, so kudos to them for that. And, I must admit, Bruce always seemed like a deer caught in the headlights of his crazy family. He was the sane one who kept everyone on an even keel, including his workaholic micro-manager wife Kris.
Kris and Bruce each have four kids from previous marriages, and are also parents to two kids together, Kendall and Kylie.
I wonder how the financial side of things will break down. Will they have a knock-down, drag-out fight over money earned during their marriage? What say you?
