Raul Esparza is apparently back on the set of “Hannibal” in Canada playing Dr. Frederick Chilton again, according to a tweet by series creator Bryan Fuller on September 12, 2013.

Bryan tweeted, “Been on set most of the day for dinner scenes with Laurence Fishburne, Mads Mikkelsen and Raul Esparza!” He also tweeted a photo of Raul wearing a floral crown.

This means that Chilton’s insides apparently have been successfully replaced inside his body, and he survived the live disembowelment by Abel (played by Eddie Izzard).

Last month on Facebook, Raul posted a funny on-set photo of himself with his insides … uh, out. (You might have to “like” his Facebook page to see it, but you should anyway, shouldn’t you?)

I saw Raul after his performance on stage in “The Cradle Will Rock” at New York’s City Center in July, and he told me he hoped that they would have him back on “Hannibal,” even though he’s also now a regular as ADA Barba on “Law and Order: SVU.” Busy man!

Now we know – Chilton is indeed back!

It will be interesting to see how Chilton’s unfathomably traumatic experience alters his character. Can’t wait to find out.

“Hannibal” returns with season two in 2014. We’ll keep you posted on an official premiere date.
