Book to Movie: Charlie Hunnam, Dakota Johnson Cast in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’

Fifty Shades of Grey: Charlie Hunnam, Dakota Johnson

The main roles in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey have now been cast!

Variety reports that Charlie Hunnam, from TV’s “Sons of Anarchy,” will be playing worldly billionaire Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of the first book in the series, Fifty Shades of Grey, by E.L. James.

And Dakota Johnson (“The Social Network”) will play the innocent Anastasia Steele. Johnson is the daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith.

According to Variety, Hunnam had initially turned down the role of Christian Grey, but reconsidered his decision after meeting with studio heads to talk about the role.

One thing’s for certain: this is going to be a very steamy movie. Just how steamy? Well, the Fifty Shades books are erotica, and firmly entrenched in the BDSM area of the genre. I guess we’ll have to wait and see exactly how racy the movie will be!

What do you think of Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey? Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele? Good choices, bad choices? Let us know in the comments below!

These seem like good choices. Charlie Hunnam already has kind of an edgy vibe, because of his role on Sons of Anarchy (it’d be R-rated if it was on the big screen).

And Dakota Johnson doesn’t really have a ton of credits yet, so she doesn’t have the baggage of “oh, she played so-and-so on such-and-such show). So that kind of frees her up to create this role from scratch.

I’m really curious how they’re going to get this film in under an R rating. Or maybe they won’t. Maybe it’ll be NC-17, but that really cuts out a huge part of the movie audience.

People seem to be speculating they’ll have to go for a NC-17 rating, Jane, but like you said, that does cut out a huge part of the potential audience. It will be interesting to see how they deal with this!

Women are going to flock to the theaters for this movie’s premiere. And they’ll bring their husbands, partners too. No other film should go against it, that’s for sure. Charlie Hunnam gets no respect from me though for his exit out of this production.
