We’ve heard of all kinds of books – and yes, even newspaper articles (“The Butler,” anyone?) – being adapted for both the big screen and the small screen.
Now Bravo is taking it one step further. It’s adapting a non-fiction book series into a cable TV pilot, “The Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce,” based on the bestselling The Girlfriend’s Guide series by Vicki Iovine.
With a pilot written by Marti Noxon (“Glee,” “Mad Men”), author Iovine is also one of the show’s executive producers. And The Hollywood Reporter reports that Lisa Edelstein (“House”) will play the starring role in the series.
The series will follow the life of a bestselling self-help author named Vicki who’s stepping into the world as a single woman in her 40s after years of marriage. She begins taking advice from her divorced friends rather than her married ones, and her choices lead to unexpected and life-changing experiences.
So there’s no need to guess who the main character is modelled after! Vicki Iovine was married to record producer Jimmy Iovine; they divorced in 2009 after 24 years of marriage. In this article from the Huffington Post published shortly after her divorce, Iovine writes:
“I am calling this awkward stage my Next Twenty-Seven; we met when I was twenty-seven, were together for the next twenty-seven and, well, you get the theme. It’s exhilarating and engaging and scary enough to give me a pre-ulcerous stomach condition. I’m diving in to these uncharted waters, even if it often feels like a belly flop. I’ll swim a few strokes and let you know how it’s going.”
This sounds like it will be a fun series – and I like that the starring role is a woman in her 40s!
