This week, Wojo catches up with Frank Caliendo, a stand-up comedian who appears in comedy clubs and theaters across the U.S., in addition to performing skits on ESPN and making guest appearances on TV shows like “Hot in Cleveland.” Read her full interview over at Parade.com.
1. What’s one of your favorite childhood memories?
“Being born, believe it or not. There’s light!” jokes Caliendo. “My best childhood memory is playing baseball in Urbandale, Iowa when we won the national AAU baseball championship, 14 and under. That’s the only time I’ve ever been able to say [national champion].”
2. Who in the comedy world most inspired you to do this and why?
“Jonathan Winters, Robin Williams — just the speed of them going from character to character, setting up alternate realities for people. I love Steven Wright. When I first started in high school, I wasn’t even doing comedy. I was writing Steven Wright jokes.”
3. If you had to choose a completely different career, what would you do and why?
Background dancer for Madonna. I just think it would be a challenge.
