Jeff Bridges plays John Gregory (the Spook) and Julianne Moore is the chilling Mother Malkin, a witch who uses blood magic, in Warner Bros’ movie “Seventh Son,” inspired by the children’s/YA series “The Last Apprentice/Wardstone Chronicles,” by Joseph Delaney.
For years, John Gregory has battled the forces of evil, protecting the land from all sorts of nasty creatures of the dark. But he’s in need of an apprentice, someone who can take over for him when Gregory’s time has come. It’s not an easy job – 29 apprentices have already tried, and failed. All hope now rests on young Thomas Ward (Ben Barnes), the seventh son of a seventh son.
You just know there’s magic in that “seventh son of a seventh son,” right?
The first difference you’ll notice between the books and the movie is in Thomas Ward himself. In the first book of the series, he’s a 12-year-old boy. In the movie, as you can see in the trailer below, Tom is definitely not a 12-year-old boy!
According to Variety, “Seventh Son” will be released in the UK on Oct. 23, 2013; American moviegoers won’t get to see the show until its U.S. release date of Jan. 17, 2014.
