This is so sad. Several sources, including PerezHilton and CNN, are reporting that Cory Monteith, who played heart throb Finn Hudson on the Fox hit “Glee,” was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room Saturday. He was only 31.
Police said the cause of death was not immediately apparent, but they ruled out foul play. Some reports indicate that he died from a drug overdose, but that’s not been confirmed at this writing. Monteith spent time in rehab early this year, checking into a drug addiction treatment facility in April.
I never would have guessed that the bright young actor who sang and danced on “Glee” had drug problems, but in 2011, he told Parade magazine that he began using drugs at 13, and by 19 went into rehab after his mother and friends intervened.
Monteith had been on the musical comedy show since it began in 2009. In 2011, he won a Teen Choice award for top actor in a comedy. The show’s cast won a Screen Actors Guild award for an ensemble in a comedy the prior year.
It just goes to show that someone who appears to be successful, happy and achieving their dreams could have a whole different story on the inside. My heart goes out to his friends and family. I believe he was still dating “Glee” co-star Lea Michele.
