Call Zach Galifianakis kooky, weird, or odd, but don’t call him cheap or unkind.
Before he made it big, Galifianakis met Mimi Haist, a charming elderly lady at his local laundromat. They struck up a friendship that would survive decades. Now that Galifianakis has made it big, he’s not above paying it forward. He’s taken Haist to movie premieres and tries to take her to lunch every few weeks or so when he’s in town.
A couple of years ago, he heard Haist, now 87, was suddenly homeless, so he found her a one-bedroom, one-bath apartment and moved her in. He continues to pay her rent every month since (and rent in Santa Monica, California is NOT cheap). He even enlisted Renee Zellweger to help decorate the place.
Zach, you get a gold star in my book. You have proved there is still goodness in the world, and for that, I’m grateful. I’ll even back any Kickstarter Campaign you come up with just because of this.
