Lil Bub, the Internet cat sensation — think of her as a sort of feline “Gagnam Style” Psy — is now a movie star. She took home the Best Feature Film Award (online) for “Lil Bub & Friendz” at the Tribeca Film Festival.
The feature documentary about Lil Bub was directed by Andy Capper and Juliette Eisner. Online viewers voted for the Best Feature Film award.
Last week at the film’s premiere, the adorable kitty graciously shared the red carpet with Robert De Niro. In the photo above, I’m not sure if he’s carrying her or strangling her — you know how competitive movie stars can be — but there’s no doubt Lil Bub is photogenic from any angle.
Co-director/producer Juliette Eisner said, “Lil Bub played it cool the entire time. She definitely worked the red carpet better than most.”
Lil Bub has a rare congenital condition that gives her a permanent kitten look, and she has no teeth, which causes her tongue to hang out, but the end result is that viewers find her a total ball of adorableness.
She had a health scare during the making of the movie, but Eisner told me in an e-mail that during the premiere, Lil Bub “honestly couldn’t have been better during this trip. I think she knew it was important, so she looked especially cute.”
Eisner added, “I hope people laugh. We wanted to emulate the feeling that you get from watching a short cat video on YouTube: happiness and joy. Ours is just a 60-minute long version.”
