Turkeys Renamed Free Birds, Gets a November Release Date

Owen Wilson and Woody HarrelsonRelativity and Reel FX just announced that the formerly-titled animated project known as Turkeys has officially been re-titled “Free Birds,” and will release nationwide on November 1, 2013 in 2D and 3D formats.

Changing the title from “Turkeys” to “Free Birds” is a good move on the part of Relativity. With a title like “Turkeys,” you’re just asking for a self-fulfilling prophecy and a field day from the critics.

Directed by Jimmy Hayward (“Horton Hears a Who!”), the movie is described as “irreverent, hilarious, adventurous buddy comedy for all ages.” The voice cast includes Woody Harrelson, Owen Wilson, Amy Poehler, Dan Fogler and Lesley Nicol.

It’s about two turkeys (voiced by Harrelson and Wilson) from opposite sides of the tracks who must put aside their differences and team up to travel back in time to change the course of history – and get turkey off the holiday menu for good.

They should name it FREE RANGE BIRDS to appeal to the organic, hippie set. 😀
