It looks like Open Road Films is banking on Stephenie Meyer’s name recognition and popularity of the “Twilight” films to launch “The Host” into the box office stratosphere.
A special Us Magazine Collector’s Edition, now on newstands, is devoted entirely to “The Host,” which opens in theaters nationwide on March 29. The film is adapted from the “Twilight” author’s 2008 book by the same name, which grabbed the #1 spot on The New York Times Bestseller List for a whopping 26 weeks.
It’s a love story set in a future where earth is occupied by a species who erase the minds of their human hosts, leaving their bodies intact. Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) is one of the last surviving humans who fights back, risking her life for the people she cares about most – Jared (Max Irons), Ian, (Jake Abel), her brother Jamie (Chandler Canterbury) and her Uncle Jeb (William Hurt). But can love conquer all?
A young couple in love with a huge obstacle — one of the partners basically gets a brain transplant — sounds like a blockbuster to me.
