Sony Pictures wasted no time in unveiling the trailer for “White House Down,” its action thriller starring Channing Tatum.
Channing plays Capitol Policeman John Cale, who has just been denied his dream job as a Secret Service agent tasked with protecting President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx).
Not wanting to disappoint his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, just as the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling into chaos and time running out, it’s up to Cale to save his daughter, the president, and the country.
The film is directed by Roland Emmerich, written by James Vanderbilt, and produced by Bradley J. Fischer, Harald Kloser, James Vanderbilt, Larry Franco, and Laeta Kalogridis. Executive Producers are Ute Emmerich, Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin.
Sony may be feeling some urgency because of the success of that other White House-in-peril action thriller, “Olympus has Fallen” directed by Antoine Fuqua, which did better that expected at the box office, pulling in $30 million opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.
Fuqua said he was looking to make a gritty film. Emmerich’s film looks to be more of a crowdpleaser.
With Channing Tatum in London and Jamie Foxx and director Roland Emmerich in New York, the two lead actors and director came together via satellite to answer questions and show fans the trailer, as well as a sneak preview of the film.
