The cast and crew of “Oz the Great and Powerful” have been spanning the globe to promote the film — a prequel of sorts to “The Wizard of Oz” we all know and love.

But perhaps no event was more star-studded than the screening hosted by Gucci and The Cinema Society at the DGA Theater Tuesday, March 5, in New York City. The after-party was held at the hot new restaurant Harlow, where guests drank Grey Goose cocktails.

James Franco, the great wizard himself, graced the event in a slate-gray Gucci suit and his signature scruffled hair.

“I just wanted to be sure that, if they were going to touch this material, they had a good approach,” he said of the re-imagining in story over at Vogue.com. “But when I read the script, I saw that they were going to be respectful in the right ways. You get to see the familiar place, but the audience gets a completely new route through that place.”

Attendees at the glittery event included Emmy Rossum, Dylan McDermott, Billy Zane, Padma Lakshmi, Lee Daniels, Bebe Neuwirth, Judd Hirsch, Beth Ostrosky Stern, Salman Rushdie, Dick Cavett, Richard Kind, Joe Pantoliano, Cynthia Rowley and many more.

“Oz the Great and Powerful” opens in theaters tomorrow, March 8, 2013.
