The Lone Ranger

Disney released a new poster for “The Lone Ranger” today, and my first thought was, wow, Johnny Depp is buff!

I guess they can do all sorts of things with photoshopping and whatnot, but they’ve gotta have a groundwork to build on, right? Keep in mind, Depp will be 50 on June 9.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski are the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, and they’re also helming “The Lone Ranger.” Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice — taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

That runaway train? They mean that literally:

“The Lone Ranger” also stars Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson and Helena Bonham Carter. It hits theaters on July 3, 2013.

Here’s a 20-second preview of the 90-second teaser spot that’ll air Sunday.
