I don’t know if “The Host” will be the next “Twilight,” but it certainly looks like a lot of fun. Any other narrator might have cheesed up the trailer, but Saoirse Ronan makes it classy.
The story, from “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer, takes place in the future, and aliens have invaded the earth, as well as nearly all the humans. They’ve not only taken over our bodies, they’ve also erased our memories.
Which makes things interesting when a human named Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) gets injected with an alien soul, causing her human love interest, Jared (Max Irons, Jeremy’s son) to wonder if the girl he loves is still in there.
Instead of carrying out her race’s mission of taking over the Earth, “Wanda” — as she comes to be called — forms a bond with her host Melanie and sets out to aid other free humans. Makes me want to read the book before the movie comes out March 29, 2013.
“The Host” is directed by Andrew Niccol, who has an interesting list of film credits. He directed “In Time” and “Lord of War” (starring Nicolas Cage – I think three people saw it), and wrote/executive produced “The Terminal” and “The Truman Show.”
It also stars Diane Kruger, Frances Fisher, Jake Abel, Chandler Canterbury and William Hurt. So … good cast, writer, director and story. I have high hopes.
Check out the trailer. Love the song: “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons.
