Flight Headed to DVD and Blu-ray Feb. 5, 2013

Flight on DVD and Blu-ray Feb. 5, 2013Flight is one of my favorite movies from 2012 and even made my Top 20 Movies for Grownups list. It’s one of those movies where they can do a lot with the bonus features, and it sounds like they’re taking full advantage of that for the DVD and blu-ray release on Feb. 5, 2013.

BUY IT: Flight (Two-Disc Combo: Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy + UltraViolet)

Directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by John Gatins, the film tells the story of Whip Whitaker (Denzel Washington), a commercial airline pilot who miraculously lands a plummeting airplane (upside down!) during a breathtaking sequence that Richard Corless of Time described as “the hairiest, scariest, most realistic, and thrilling plane crash in movie history.”

Despite his heroics, however, Whip comes under investigation and begins what may be an even more harrowing personal descent into alcoholism and substance abuse. The movie also stars John Goodman, Don Cheadle, Kelly Reilly, Bruce Greenwood, Melissa Leo and Brian Geraghty.

Flight will be available in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack with UltraViolet and compelling special features that take audiences behind-the-scenes to learn about the film’s journey to the screen, how the filmmakers created the terrifying plane crash and more. In addition, the two-disc set includes highlights from a Q&A panel. The film will also be available as a single-disc DVD.

All blu-ray releases available for purchase will be enabled with UltraViolet, which lets you add movies to your digital collection in a cloud, and then stream or download them to a variety of devices. I still haven’t been able to answer my husband’s question, “where is this cloud?,” but it’s an interesting way to amass a collection without taking up tons of space in your house.
