I’m trying to decide whether the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is degrading to women or celebrates them. I’m thinking it celebrates them, because of how Victoria’s Secret handles the whole event.
For one thing, they view the models are Angels. They’re not devils, they’re angels. Even the runway outfits have wings. Of course, most people probably don’t notice the wings, because of how awesome the models’ bodies are. Which brings me to my next point…
The models’ bodies are awesome. Look, as mentioned in my earlier post today about Shania Twain and Jennifer Lopez and their skintight body suits, I don’t care how much help you have in the way of personal trainers, private chefs, fierce shapewear and even plastic surgery. A body like that takes a ton of time and effort. And hey, if I had a body like that, I’d want to show it off, too. (Don’t look for any Victoria’s Secret-type photos of me on this site anytime soon.)
The 2012 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was held in November, but the show itself didn’t air on TV until this week — Tuesday night on CBS.
The Angels strutted the latest collection of Victoria’s Secret lingerie in New York City at the Lexington Armory, and the show was bolstered with performances by Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars. Models included Miranda Kerr, Lindsey Ellingson, Hilary Rhoda, Barbara Palvin, Cameron Russell, Candice Swanepoel, Joan Smalls, Sharam Diniz ,Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Maud Welzen, Shanina Shaik, Jasmine Tookes, Toni Garrn, Erin Heatherton, Izabel Goulart, and Bregje Heinen.
A bit of history: Victoria’s Secret has held an annual fashion show since 1995, but it wasn’t televised until 2001. Notable Angels have included Naomi Campbell, Heidi Klum, Liu Wen and Gisele Bundchen. The “Fantasy Bra,” a custom-designed bejeweled brassiere, was first created in 1996. This year, the bra cost $2.5 million and was worn by Alessandra Ambrosio. Yes, you read that right. $2.5 million. Where would you even wear such a thing?

And tell me… do you think the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show degrades women or celebrates them?
