Annie Nominations Include Brave, Frankenweenie, ParaNorman

Brave

The awards season is in full swing, and the International Animated Film Society (ASIFA-Hollywood) announced their nominations today for the 40th Annual Annie Awards, celebrating the year’s best animated films.

The Annie Awards cover 30 categories and include Best Animated Feature, Best Animated Special Production, Commercials, Short Subjects and Outstanding Individual Achievements.

It goes without saying — but I’ll say it anyway — that the Annie nominations for Best Animated Feature will likely be contenders in the Oscar race. And since I specialize in family movie reviews for my [MARKETING PLUG ALERT] syndication partners, I have a pretty good handle on the best of the best in this category.

My favorite family movie of 2012 is Brave, the Disney Pixar film rife with girl-power thanks to a ginger-haired Irish princess. Another favorite is Frankenweenie, Tim Burton’s black-and-white homage to Frankenstein, only instead of a big hulking monster we have an adorable little dog.

Wreck-It Ralph is also very creative and fun, as is Hotel Transylvania, where all monsters go to get away from the stresses of being monsters. Rise of the Guardians is gorgeously animated, and both funny and touching.

Winners will be announced at the 40th Annual Annie Awards on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at UCLA’s Royce Hall, in Los Angeles. Here is a complete list of the 2012 Annie Award Nominations:
