I figured Disney was everywhere around the globe, but apparently not. Saw last week where they signed a new two-year agreement to broadcast their films and animated content in Kazakhstan on Channel 31.
Perhaps to try and balance out the totally non-Disney content of Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (though I must confess I laughed out loud at the two guys running stark naked through the hotel).
But I digress. Under the terms of the new agreement, Channel 31 receives the rights to broadcast 140 Disney movies and full-length animation titles, around 20 animated series and TV shows, including The Lion King, Cars, Brave, The Avengers and Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as the latest Funniest Home Videos episodes (um, I’d take Borat over this).
The deal also includes the ABC TV shows Revenge, Once Upon A Time, Missing, and The River (that’s right – give ’em a show that was canceled after eight episodes!).
