I’m not much for brutal and bloody violence a la 300, but do love a good Greek God tale. Immortals stars Henry Cavill as Theseus, a mortal man chosen by Zeus (Luke Evans) to lead the fight against ruthless King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke), who’s on a rampage across Greece to obtain a weapon that can destroy humanity. It’s a very cool bow that shoots ethereal, magical arrows. John Hurt, Stephen Dorff and Freida Pinto also star.
The best part for me was Rourke as Hyperion, a brutal guy who has no qualms about slicing and dicing whomever or whatever gets in his way. He was on Piers Morgan the other night and said he’s getting better with his anger issues. Maybe he vented them all out in this movie.
Also loved the scenery – an elaborate cave carved into a rock cliff. But meh on the violence. After about 10 straight minutes of blood flying and limbs carved, I was looking at my watch wondering if it’d ever be over. Immortals is rated R for sequences of strong bloody violence and a scene of sexuality; 110 min.; in theaters Nov. 11, 2011; directed by Tarsem Singh.
