Usually, when you see wild stunts on the big screen, you automatically think, ok, that’s not real. It’s been created and manipulated digitally. They’ve done some computer magic and no one was ever in any real danger.
At least, that’s what I think when I see that stuff. But then, I’ve seen a gazillion movies and have some idea how they’re made.
But the rules change when you’re talking about a Michael Bay movie. Hey, I know some people think he’s a [fill in the derogatory name here]. That he’s kind of full of himself and whatnot. I have no idea. I’ve never met the guy. He could be very nice if you bumped into him on the street.
But I will say this: he’s a genius when it comes to cool stunts and special effects. It’s a Michael Bay movie, you know you’re in for a wild ride. And if you’re actually IN the movie, “wild ride” takes on a whole new meaning.
Here’s a new featurette for ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon‘ where guys jump off the Sears Tower in Chicago and actually appear to fly with “wingsuits.” Parachutes open at some point, but before that? It’s a giant crapshoot with people flying willy-nilly around buildings in a big metropolis. Michael Bay got the idea while watching ’60 Minutes’ one night and decided he had to have those in the movie. Done deal.
Read more about the movie, in theaters June 29, 2011, and watch the trailer here.
And tell me in the comments: Would YOU jump off a building if given the chance? I can’t even imagine jumping off my own bed.
