It’s always a little jarring when you see real-life news footage in movies. Walter Cronkite shows up in the trailer for ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon,’ and in this trailer for ‘X-Men: First Class,’ we’ve got John Kennedy talking about the Cuban Missile Crisis.
I’m not totally sure I like it. These are serious things that happened in our country’s history, and it seems a little cheap to try and blend them into fictional storylines. I dunno, maybe it’s just me.
On the other hand, it does bring a sense of reality to the superheroes. I mean, if the X-Men can’t save us from the Cold War, who can, right?
And the movie looks pretty entertaining. It’s got Jennifer Lawrence, whom I absolutely loved in ‘Winter’s Bone,’ January Jones from ‘Mad Men,’ and the always cerebral James McAvoy. Michael Fassbender is an up-and-coming actor whose star is shining brightly. And we get to see how the X-Men and mutants got their start. Yep, looking forward to this movie.
‘X-Men: First Class’ hits theaters on June 3, 2011. Directed by Matthew Vaughn, it stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, January Jones and Rose Byrne.
