I’m woefully behind on ‘Game of Thrones,’ but I’m loving the moody HBO series. It’s based on the first book in George R.R. Martin’s ‘A Song of Ice and Fire,’ a series of epic fantasy novels first published in 1996 about seven noble families fighting for control of the mythical land of Westeros.
Filled with armor-clad men, handsome women, political intrigue, royal feasts, gloomy castles, mighty swords, and family loyalty and betrayal, the show has a real ‘[amazon_link id=”B0026L7H20″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Lord of the Rings[/amazon_link]’ feel to it — only with more blood and sex. In fact, Sean Bean, who played Borimir in the film versions of Tolkien’s classic tale, plays Eddard Stark here. It’s enough to send any fangirl running for her smelling salts.
They’ve assembled quite an impressive cast, including Aidan Gillen, Mark Addy, Lena Heady and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. You can check out the whole crew here, but the one who always catches my eye is Peter Dinklage, whom I’ve been a fan of since I saw him in ‘[amazon_link id=”B0001WTWDI” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Station Agent[/amazon_link]’ back in 2003.
As Tyrion Lannister in ‘Game of Thrones,’ Dinklage manages to be playful, caddish, sexy, roguish, and everything in between. Here’s a guy who’s really leveraged his small stature to cut quite a large swath through Hollywood. Take a look at the video below and you’ll see what I mean, though note that some content is inappropriate for youngsters.
‘Game of Thrones’ airs Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO. It’s rated TV-MA, which means it may be unsuitable for kids younger than 17. This is definitely in the TV for Grownups category.
