When I heard that there was a remake of ‘To Catch a Thief’ in the works, all I could think was, really? How could any film possibly come close to the magic conjured up by Grace Kelly and Cary Grant? Why even go there? I guess because it’s a film that has legs through history and could easily be adapted with a modern slant. And more importantly to the studios, it’ll make money.
Josh Stolberg, who wrote ‘Good Luck Chuck,’ ‘Sorority Row,’ and ‘Piranha’ (say what?), is writing the script with Bobby Florsheim. “It’s exciting because it’s one of my favorite Hitchcock movies, and it was fun to come at it from a different angle – make it a little bit more modern and ‘gadgety,’” Stolberg told Latino Review.
“It’s the first script I’ve ever written that [encompasses] a lot of heists and action sequences, and it was a blast!” The script was turned into Paramount a couple of months ago, and the film is currently being cast. Shooting will take place in Santorini, “a travelogue of the most amazing places on Earth,” said Stolberg.
Hitchcock films never go out of style. There’s been talk of remakes for ‘Strangers on a Train’ and ‘Suspicion,’ and ‘[amazon_link id=”B000RO6K80″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Disturbia[/amazon_link]’ was sued for plagiarizing ‘Rear Window’ by the estate of the author of the original short story. Anthony Hopkins is reportedly in talks to play Hitchcock in ‘Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho.’
I just can’t imagine who could step into the glamorous shoes of Grace Kelly and Cary Grant. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt? Or maybe they’ll go for the younger crowd and cast someone like Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
Who would YOU cast in ‘[amazon_link id=”B001PKHS68″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]To Catch a Thief[/amazon_link]’?
