The Smurfs Are Coming to Theaters! Check Out the Trailer

I think it’s hilarious that they’re making a movie about the Smurfs. I sort of poo-poo’d the idea at first, but once I saw the teaser trailer below, it reminded me of how cute the little blue guys are, and now I can’t wait to see it!

smurfs-posterThe Smurfs’ hits theaters Aug. 3, 2011, and finds the little guys chased out of their village by the evil wizard Gargamel. In fact, they tumble right out of their magical world and into ours – smack in the middle of Central Park.

It’s directed by Raja Gosnell, who also directed ‘Beverly Hills Chihuahua’ (loved it – can’t wait for the DVD sequel in February), ‘Yours, Mine and Ours’ (not as good as the original, but still good), ‘Scooby-Doo’ and ‘Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed’ (fun), and ‘Never Been Kissed’ (a favorite with Drew Barrymore). Based on his creds, I think he’ll do a great job with ‘The Smurfs.’

The voice cast is amazing: Neil Patrick Harris, Sofia Vergara, Jayma Mays, Anton Yelchin, Hank Azaria, Katy Perry, Alan Cumming, Paul Reubens, B.J. Novak, Fred Armison, George Lopez, Kenan Thompson, and Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf. Yes, Jonathan Winters! Yes, he’s still alive! He’s 85!

Check out the teaser trailer and tell me if you’re excited about ‘The Smurfs.’

I saw this trailer before watching Tangled. Sounds like an all-star cast! I vaguely remember the smurfs from when I was growing up, but I assume this is the kind of movie that won’t require past Smurf knowledge to make sense, right?
