The Green Hornet: When Good Comic Book Movies Go Bad

I just posted my review of ‘The Green Hornet’ (check it out here), and after letting things ruminate for a couple days, I’ve decided that maybe Seth Rogen should go back to doing what he does best. Being a slacker.

Oh sure, he’s a slacker in ‘The Green Hornet,’ but he attempts to become a non-slacker by fighting bad guys, and it all goes wrong. Oh so wrong.

I gave the movie 2.5 out of 5 Reels, and that’s being generous. There was no chemistry among any of the characters — well, except for maybe Kato and Black Beauty (that’s the car) – and the dialogue seemed like it was written on a late-night bender. Also, I’m pretty sure I saw the shadow of a cue card in a few scenes.

On the other hand, my 16-year-old son and his buddy absolutely loved ‘The Green Hornet,’ so maybe you have to be a teenage boy to get it. I promised them that I’d say something nice about the movie, so here it is: the car is awesome.

My husband is a super hero nut so he wants to see this. I have zero interest though, so he’ll have to wait for it to be on Netflix!

Bummer. I haven’t read any other reviews but yours but the general reviewer vibe seems to be the same. Shame that. I like a good super hero flick.

Comic book movies always bum me out. There have been good ones, but for the most part I find myself terribly disappointed in the films.

So you’re accusing comic book characters of being made of cardboard? Ahh, yes…only it’s pulp paper. Shallow? Ahh, yes…2 dimensions are their metier.
Personally, I liked Warren Beatty’s sleek version of Dick Tracey–but that was not a comic book it was an artsy movie. So let the low-brows have their thing, Jane.

I’ve wondered whether this movie is good or not. I’ll cross it off my list. We finally saw A-Team last night. I had low expectations and I was a big A-Team fan years ago. I loved the movie. Stupid, full of plot holes, plenty of banter, very A-Team.

[…] ‘The Green Lantern‘ Release Date: Jun. 17 Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins, Angela Bassett What It’s About: A lowly test pilot gets his hands on a magical green ring that gives him awesome powers and membership into a group of elite, intergalactic superheroes. Reel Buzz: Well, Ryan Reynolds IS the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ (right?), so I’m sure his six-packed abs will get plenty of screen time. I just hope this movie is better than Seth Rogen’s ‘The Green Hornet.’  […]
