Would You Watch ’24’ for 85 Hours in a Row?

One of the running jokes in our house is that one day my son and I will sit down and watch the entire ’24’ series from start to finish. I’ll have to call the school and say tensely, “I’ll have my son back in school in 43 hours, 19 minutes and 16 seconds!” and they’ll hear the clock ticking in the background (because, you know, we’re watching ’24,’ so it’s timed down to the second). Ok, maybe you had to be there.

24 complete series dvd box setSomeone was listening in, because to promote the release of ‘24: The Complete Series‘ DVD box set on Dec. 14, 2010, the PR folks arranged an event where 100 fans would go into a glass theater and watch the entire series — all 85 hours — from start to finish without looking away from the screen and without falling asleep. I hope they get bathroom breaks.

The '24' Viewing Marathon!

The winner wins $10K and bragging rights as the Ultimate 24 Fan, and The Guinness Book of World Records is on hand to make sure it’s all official. Apparently, the previous TV-watching record will be broken in the process.

Let’s see … the event started Dec. 2 at 7 p.m., so at this writing, it’s still going on. But not everyone is going the distance. The couple below tried their best, but at least all the contestants get a ’24’ T-shirt and a box set. Well worth the effort, I say, but what?! No caffeine?!

Check out the ’24’ Facebook page for updates. I’ll be curious to see what the winner looks like when all is said and done. Will they have to carry him or her out on a stretcher? Hey, that’s nothing compared to what Jack Bauer endured!

How long would YOU last?
