The trailer for ‘The Last Exorcism’ is playing on TV right now, and it looks pretty scary. In fact, I couldn’t believe it when I discovered that the movie is rated PG-13 for “disturbing violent content and terror, some sexual references and thematic material.” Yeah, that sounds an awful lot like an R-rated movie to me.
The story follows a troubled evangelical minister, Rev. Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian) who agrees to let his last exorcism be filmed by a documentary crew. When he arrives on the rural Louisiana farm of Louis Sweetzer, Cotton expects to perform just another routine "exorcism" on a disturbed religious fanatic.
An earnest fundamentalist, Sweetzer has contacted the charismatic preacher as a last resort, certain his teenage daughter Nell (Ashley Bell) is possessed by a demon who must be exorcized before their terrifying ordeal ends in tragedy.
Here’s the rub: Cotton has spent years parting desperate believers from their money, and he and his crew plan to film a confessionary documentary of this, his last exorcism. But upon arriving at the already blood-drenched family farm, it’s clear that nothing could have prepared him for the true evil he encounters there.
Does this sound even remotely like it should be rated PG-13? Watch the trailer and leave comments below.
