Something about bank robbers is sort of enticing. I think it harks back to my love for all things ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.’
Sure, bank robbery isn’t a profession you’d want your kids to get into, but you have to admit, there’s something mystifying about people who can break into banks, take the money, hop in a getaway car and ride off into the sunset. Especially if they can do it without killing anyone.
I have a feeling there’s probably killing involved in ‘Takers,’ in theaters this Friday, Aug. 27. This is the first major picture for director John Luessenhop – unless you count 2000’s ‘Lockdown’ — and the story revolves around a notorious group of criminals, played by Idris Elba, Paul Walker, T.I., Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen and Michael Ealy.

The slick group continues to baffle the cops by pulling off perfectly executed bank robberies — in and out like clockwork, leaving no evidence behind, laying low in between heists. But, of course, greed usually gets the better of these types of folks. Their attempts to pull off one last job will likely be interrupted by a hardened detective (Matt Dillon) who’s hell-bent on solving the case.
The cast is pretty outrageous, and also includes Zoe Saldana, Johnathon Schaech, and Nicholas Turturro, Take a look at the trailer and see what you think. It’s a bit ‘Oceans 13,’ only a little grittier perhaps.
Love the ‘Cool Guys Don’t Look at Explosions’ scene, and I’m currently in the midst of a major crush on Idris Elba – loved him in ‘The Wire’ and ‘Legacy,’ so I’ll go see anything with him in it.
