I love a good political thriller, and the combination of Sean Penn and Naomi Watts makes me think ‘Fair Game’ will be everything I hope it will be.
It’s always touchy when a film is based on a book, or, in this case, the autobiography of real-life undercover CIA operative Valerie Plame. You never know if it will live up to the book, but this story is certainly compelling, though I do wonder if Watts can pull off such an intense role. Although if you click through Valerie’s link above and watch the videos, Watts really DOES look just like Plame. It’s amazing.
As a covert officer in the CIA’s Counter-Proliferation Division, Valerie leads an investigation into the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Her husband, diplomat Joe Wilson (Sean Penn), is drawn into the investigation to substantiate an alleged sale of enriched uranium from Niger. But when the administration ignores his findings and uses the issue to support the call to war, Joe writes a New York Times editorial outlining his conclusions and ignites a firestorm of controversy.
More after the jump, including pics and a trailer…
‘Fair Game’ opens in theaters on November 5, 2010 in limited release. I hope it opens wide shortly thereafter, but I don’t have any date on that. It’s rated PG-13 for some language, but you have to think there will be plenty of action, too.
