New in theaters today is another installment in the ‘Step Up’ franchise (in 3D!) and a buddy cop movie starring the fab team of Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. Here’s the rundown and trailers:
‘The Other Guys’ – Detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) is a forensic accountant who’s more interested in paperwork than hitting the streets. Detective Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) is stuck with Allen as his partner ever since an embarrassing incident with his quick trigger finger. Allen and Terry idolize the city’s top cops, Danson and Manzetti (Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson), but when an opportunity arises for the Other Guys to step up, things don’t quite go as planned. Rated PG-13 for crude and sexual content, language, violence and some drug material; 107 min. This trailer looks hilarious (yeah, I laughed out loud).
‘Step Up 3D’ – I’m always a little meh-another-dance-movie when I see new dance flicks in theaters. But maybe the 3D element will add a new dimension to this third installment of the ‘Step Up’ franchise. It finds a tight-knit group of street dancers, including Luke (Rick Malambri) and Natalie (Sharni Vinson), teaming up with NYU freshman Moose (Adam Sevani). They find themselves pitted against the world’s best breakdancers in a high-stakes showdown that will change their lives forever! Ok, it really does sound like every other dance movie, but no matter. If you love dance, this is no doubt a fun way to spend a couple hours. Rated PG-13 for brief strong language. 107 min.
