I Want to be Julia Roberts in the Eat Pray Love Trailer

eat-pray-love-julia-roberts Part of me really wants to be Julia Roberts in ‘Eat Pray Love .’ I mean, who hasn’t gotten into a rut where we just want to go somewhere and “marvel at something”? Who among us hasn’t wanted an ongoing relationship with pizza?

The difference for me is that I’d want my husband (and, ok, possibly my kids – if they stop fighting long enough) to go with me and pet elephants and ride bikes through glorious landscapes.

The movie – based on the best-selling book by Elizabeth Gilbert — opens in theaters tomorrow, Aug. 13, and is rated PG-13 on appeal for brief strong language, some sexual references and male rear nudity. Hmmm… not exactly family fare, although I think romantic teens 14 and older will go for it. Also check out Gilbert’s newish book, ‘Committed: A Skeptic Makes Peace With Marriage .’

What about you? Are you ready for an Eat Pray Love sojourn? Would you go alone or take the family?

Alone. I think you have you bumble along by yourself to figure anything out.

Oddly, my husband wants to see this movie.

I just read a review of the movie on Salon.com and it said pretty much what I would expect from this project. Compared it to a Lifetime movie because of the problems inherant in trying to cram a year-long sojourn and memoir into 140 minutes and promoting it as a romantic-comedy.If I were going on a sojourn like this I would do six months of it alone and then I *might* my husband along. Sorry, kids, you have have to stay home and take care of the animals.

Yeah, I saw the movie last night, and they really glossed over things that got more play in the book. I guess it would be hard to make it truly accurate, because the movie would have to be 8 hours long. And even at 133 minutes, my 13-yo got bored and started playing Word Mole on my phone about half-way through.

I liked it well enough, but didn’t want to rush back and see it again or anything. I like both Julia Roberts and Javier Bardem, and Richard Jenkins. I kept thinking how very different Javier’s lovely character was from the killer Chigurh in No Country For Old Men. It makes me appreciate his acting skills that much more.
