New Movie Friday: Salt! Ramona and Beezus!

salt-angelina-jolie-poster I just read an interview with Angelina Jolie in the August issue of Vanity Fair, and she turned down the role of Bond Girl once, noting that she’d rather play James Bond. That’s my kind of girl.

A year later, she was offered the role of Evelyn Salt, and from all the buzz, it sounds like a female Bond. Way to stick to your heart, Angelina. Here’s the rundown on new movies this weekend:

Salt’ – Jolie plays CIA officer Evelyn Salt, who swore an oath to duty, honor and country. But her loyalty is severely tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. Salt goes on the run, using her skills as a covert operative to elude capture. Who IS Salt? Hopefully, someone we’ll see in a sequel or two. Directed by Phillip Noyce; 100 min.; rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action.

More after the jump…

’Ramona and Beezus’ – I’ve really been looking forward to this movie, because I read all the Beverly Cleary books when I was a kid (and still read them, even though I have kids of my own now!). This movie follows the adventures of young Ramona Quimby (newcomer Joey King) and her big sister Beezus (Selena Gomez). Ramona’s vivid imagination, boundless energy, and accident-prone antics keep everyone on their toes. But they also come in handy when she puts her mind to helping save her family’s home. Directed by Elizabeth Allen; 104 min.; rated G.

Also in Limited Release: ‘Audrey the Trainwreck,’ ‘Countdown to Zero,’ ‘Farewell,’ ‘Life During Wartime,’ ‘Mugabe and the White African,’ ‘Spoken Word,’ and ‘Tirador (Slingshot).’
