The ‘Green Lantern’ movie has been buzzed about for years, and we’re finally getting some sneak peeks. The July 16 issue of Entertainment Weekly features Ryan Reynolds as the famed DC Comics superhero, complete with a skintight green suit, a magical ring, and even greenish hair.
Ok, is it just me, or does he look a teensy bit like Will Ferrell in that costume? No matter. I’m onboard the Green Lantern train. Directed by Martin Campbell (he also helmed ‘Casino Royale’), the movie is scheduled for a June 17, 2011 release date.
Reynolds stars as Hal Jordan, a cocky test pilot who’s granted a mystical green ring that gives him otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace in the universe.
It’s not Reynolds’ first time at the superhero rodeo – he played Deadpool in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine.’ But this role offered lots of challenges, like getting hurled through the air on a wire at up to 60 feet per second to create the illusion of flight.
“The first time you do it, you’re seriously considering an adult diaper,” Reynolds says. Still, he couldn’t resist the chance to play the beloved DC Comics hero, whose power ring can conjure virtually anything he can dream up. “Will and imagination are his superpowers,” Reynolds says. “We need a circus of Timothy Learys to think of things Hal would invent with his ring.” Hmmm….
Any thoughts on Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern? I’m sure it’ll be heavily buzzed about at next week’s Comic-Con in San Diego.
