It’s kind of hard to feel too bad for Lindsay Lohan, who was ordered to spend 90 days in jail by a judge today. The reason? She violated probation in a 2007 drug case by failing to attend court-ordered alcohol education classes.
Lohan immediately burst into tears after the sentencing, and word is that both she and her family were stunned by the sentencing. Again, just because she’s a celebrity doesn’t mean she’s above the law. I think the judge was not only sending a message to Lohan, but also other celebs who should be taking the law very seriously.
Lohan wasn’t required to immediately surrender, but she’ll have to turn herself in on July 20. She’ll also be required to enter an in-patient rehab program after her release from jail.
The ruling came during a hearing set for the actress after she missed a court date in May. She’s been required to wear an ankle alcohol monitor, a.k.a. SCRAM ankle bracelet, since then.
Weeks later, the monitor issued an alert after Lohan attended the MTV Movie Awards and after-parties. Prosecutors called it an “alcohol-related” violation.
What do you think? Did the judge come down too hard on Lohan? Should she have gotten off without a jail sentence?
