‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ Season 5 on DVD May 11

fresh-prince-bel-air-season-5 It’s always fun when somebody starts out their career on a TV show and then rises to mega-movie-stardom. ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: The Complete Fifth Season’ hits DVD on May 11, 2010.

It stars, of course, Will Smith. He’s producing ‘The Karate Kid,’ in theaters June 11, 2010, and also reprises his role of Agent Jay in ‘Men in Black 3,’ hitting theaters sometime in 2011.

Get this, though. Smith has no less than 28 – 28! – projects on tap over the next few years, including sequels to ‘Independence Day,’ Bad Boys,’ Hancock,’ and ‘I, Robot.’ Good grief, talk about busy.

But ‘Fresh Prince’ offers a great opportunity to see him in the show that launched his monster career. The set features 25 episodes on three discs, and finds Will put into a trance by a hypnotist, meeting Lisa (Nia Long), and even standing with her at the altar.

More after the jump…

One of the best eps is when Vivian (Daphne Maxwell Reid) reminisces about the marriage proposal from Philip (James Avery) when they appeared on Soul Train 25 years earlier.

You might think of ‘Fresh Prince’ as a goofy sitcom, but it featured some of the best actors around and delved into some serious things on occasion. The show aired for six seasons, from 1990 to 1996, and focused on Smith as a teenager from inner city Philadelphia who’s sent to live with his wealthy relatives in Bel-Air. It currently airs on ABC Family, TBS and Disney XD.

I mean really. How long were they married? There can’t be enough material to write a book more than 20 pages. Maybe he’ll go the ol college paper route, 13pt font, big margins .
